Will Not Let Anyone Die Due To Oxygen Shortage If We Get 700 Tonnes Daily: Arvind Kejriwal

Mumbai: Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday said his government will set up 9,000-9,500 oxygen beds if the national capital received 700 tonnes of oxygen daily.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also thanked the Center, Delhi High Court and the Supreme Court on behalf of the citizens as 730 metric tonnes of oxygen was supplied to the national capital for the first time.

Delhi requires 700 metric tons of oxygen every day. We are constantly requesting the central government to help organize it. For the first time yesterday, Delhi received 730 MT of oxygen, Kejriwal wrote in his letter.

On behalf of the people of Delhi, I thank you. I request you to ensure that Delhi gets this amount of oxygen on a daily basis and there are no cuts. The entire Delhi will be grateful to you for this, he added.

The CM of Delhi also asked the hospitals to restore their bed capacity again as they said: “Due to the oxygen crisis, the hospitals had to reduce their bed capacity. I request all hospitals to now reinstate their bed capacity. I hope we will receive 700 tons of oxygen every day.”

“If we get an adequate supply of oxygen – 700 tons – we will be able to set up 9000 – 9500 beds in Delhi. We will be able to create oxygen beds. I assure you that we will not let anyone die to a shortage of oxygen in Delhi,” he added expressing hope.

Earlier on Wednesday, the apex court asked the centre to comply with court orders of around 700 metric tonnes of oxygen in Delhi. This happened when the centre moved to the apex court against the show cause notice of the Delhi High Court on the oxygen crisis in Delhi.

Delhi has recorded 335 deaths, 19,133 new infections and 20,028 recoveries in the last 24 hours. There are 90,629 active cases in the national capital with no respite in the surge of new coronavirus infections.
