Maha CM’s Brother-In-Law Raided By ED, Properties Worth ₹6 Cr Frozen

Mumbai: The Enforcement Directorate on Tuesday provisionally attached immovable properties, worth over ₹6 crores, allegedly linked to Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray’s brother-in-law Shridhar Madhav Patankar.

According to media reports, the ED has attached movable assets worth Rs 6.45 crore of Thackeray’s brother-in-law Sridhar Madhav Patankar.

The central agency has also sealed 11 residential flats of Shree Saibaba Grihinimi Pvt Ltd in the Nilambari project in Thane, Maharashtra (owned by Patankar).

In an official statement, the Enforcement Directorate said it issued a provisional order under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) to attach 11 residential flats in the Nilambari project of Shree Saibaba Grihiniramati Pvt Ltd located in Thane near Mumbai.

It states that Shridhar Madhav Patankar, brother of Thackeray’s wife Rashmi, owns and controls Shri Saibaba Grihiniramati Pvt Ltd.

Further, the agency accused Patankar of being involved in a case of money laundering and misappropriation of “Pak” money in the real estate projects of Shree Saibaba Grihiniarmi Pvt Ltd.

At present, the case is being investigated against a company named Pushpak Bullion.

This comes after Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government alleged that central probe agencies, including ED, were “given targets” by the Centre to work in a vindictive manner against the Maharashtra government.

Earlier, the ED had arrested former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh Nawab Malik in separate money laundering cases. A special PMLA has extended Malik’s judicial custody for 14 days till April 4.

The 62-year-old politician was arrested by the ED on February 23 in an alleged money laundering case arising out of a tainted land deal involving mafia don Dawood Ibrahim Kaskar.
