Maha Lockdown: 1.10 Lakh Cases Filed, 20,900 Held So Far

Mumbai: More than 1.10 lakh crimes have been registered and around 21,000 people have been arrested across Maharashtra for offences related to the outbreak of novel coronovirus, police said on Tuesday.

Most of them are registered under Section 188 of the IPC for disobeying official orders.

“We have registered 1,10,920 crimes so far and arrested 20,906 people across the state,” an official said.

He said there were 243 incidents of attacks on policemen enforcing the lockout and 822 people were arrested.

The official said the forefront and other lockdown criteria are followed to ensure social disturbances, in which a total of 136 officers and 1,192 constables were infected with the virus, while 12 died.

“Eight of the 12 dead are from Mumbai, one from Pune, Solapur, Nashik villagers and anti-terrorism squad,” he said.

He said police made 95,000 calls to the control room numbers during the lockdown.
