Maharashtra Polls: Chhota Rajan’s Brother Deepak Nikalije To Contest From Phaltam Constituency

Mumbai: In another move BJP’s small ally Republican Party of India has given the ticket to Underworld don Chhota Rajan’s brother Deepak Nikalije who will be contesting Assembly Elections from Phaltam Assembly constituency.

The state is going to the polls on October 21. In the seat-sharing deal among the BJP, Sena and other smaller allies, the RPI, led by Union minister Ramdas Athawale, has got six seats, reports said.

A senior RPI leader said, “This time he expressed a desire to contest from that area as he is from that area and has a good network.”

This is not the first time Nickelje will contest the election. He had unsuccessfully contested assembly elections from Mumbai’s Chembur on a party ticket.

The other five seats where RPI will be fielding candidates are Malshir in Solapur district, Bhandara and Naigaon in Nanded district, Pathri in Parbhani and Mankhurd-Shivaji Nagar in Mumbai.

27 years later, Chhota Rajan was arrested in 2015 in Bali. Last year, he was convicted of the murder of Midday crime and investigative editor Jay Day and given life imprisonment.
