Mamata Calls Centre’s Claim of Vaccinating All Citizens Before Dec 2021 A ‘Hoax’

Mumbai: Claiming that the BJP-led central government is not sending vaccines to states, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee rejected the Centre’s claim of completing the COVID-19 vaccination in India in December 2021 and called it said fraud.

“That (vaccination of all citizens before December 2021) is just a hoax. They just say baseless things. The Center is not sending vaccines to the state government. The Centre should procure vaccines for states and give it free of cost to all,” said the West Bengal Chief Minister.

The remarks came after Union Minister of State for Home G Kishan Reddy reiterated earlier in the day that the entire eligible population would receive COVID-19 vaccines by the end of the year.

“The government has made action plans to vaccinate all by the end of December (2021) and for production of 250 crore vaccine doses after speaking to several pharma companies. Sputnik arrived in Hyderabad yesterday; discussions are on getting Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson too.

“India stands third compared to other countries, in terms of vaccinating its citizens. We have simplified import rules so private hospitals can import vaccines. The vaccination drive will run for the next 7-8 months. Be assured that everyone will get the vaccine,” Reddy told reporters today.
