Not Releasing Chief Secretary: Mamata Banerjee In Letter To PM Modi

Mumbai: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying she was “shocked and stunned” by the “unilateral order” from the Centre and won’t be relieving Chief Secretary Alapan Bandyopadhyay.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee wrote a letter to PM Narendra Modi requesting him to withdraw, recall, reconsider the decision and rescind the latest order which initiated his transfer to the Centre.

Earlier, agency reports cited that Bandyopadhyay was not relieved and was scheduled to hold meetings in the state on Monday.

“As of now, Mr Bandyopadhyay has not been relieved of his duties by the West Bengal government… As per tomorrow’s schedule, he may be participating in a review meeting to be chaired by the CM at the state secretariat around 3 pm,” an official source told news agency PTI.

On Friday, after West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee did not attend the review meeting on Cyclone YES called by PM Narendra Modi, the Center initiated the transfer of Bandyopadhyay through a letter from the Department of Personnel and Training.

“Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the placement of the services of Bandyopadhyay with Government of India as per provisions of the Indian Administrative Service (cadre) Rules, 1954, with immediate effect,” the DoPT letter said.

The officer reportedly accompanied Mamata Banerjee when she went to submit the cyclone report to PM during the latter’s visit to the state.
