Mamata Releases TMC’s Poll Manifesto, Promises 5L Jobs In A Year

Mumbai: TMC supremo and West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday released her party’s election manifesto for the upcoming assembly elections.

In some key promises, Banerjee said that the manifesto was for ‘all religions’. Ration, Ma, Mati, Manush, door-to-door delivery of financial assistance to the poor and windows are some of the other document’s focus areas.

“We were supposed to release our manifesto earlier but due to my health condition, it took time. We are releasing our manifesto today by thanking Maa, Mati, Manush (mother, soil and people),” said the chief minister while releasing the manifesto.

She further mentioned a few of her government’s welfare schemes. “Our work has caught the attention of the world. For Kanyashree, we were awarded the first position by UNESCO,” added Banerjee.

Issuing the manifesto, Banerjee said, “This is not a political manifesto. It is a development-oriented manifesto. It is a manifesto for the people and for the people.”

Describing the achievements of his government, Banerjee said that when TMC came to power, the state’s revenue was around Rs 25,000 crore. “It is now over Rs 75,000 crore,” she said. We have reduced poverty by 40 per cent in Bengal, Banerjee said.

TMC manifesto includes the following points.

  • Increase in annual financial aid to farmers from Rs 6,000 to Rs 10,000.
  • Credit card of Rs 10 lakh for students for pursuing higher studies; only 4 per cent interest will be charged.
  • Ensure minimum annual income of Rs 6,000 and Rs 12,000 for general category and backward community people respectively in Bengal.
  • Doorstep delivery of ration.
  • Financial assistance to the poor and widows.
  • Special task force to examine and propose OBC status to all communities that are not recognized.
  • Five lakh job opportunities will be generated in a year.

Elections for the 294-seater West Bengal Assembly will take place in eight phases starting March 27. The final date of voting is April 29. The counting of votes will take place on May 2.
