Manipur Govt Asks People Not To Believe Rumours, Issues Helpline

Mumbai: Days after the video of naked women being paraded surfaced online, the Manipur government appealed to the people to not believe in rumors. It issued a “rumor-free” helpline number (9233522822) for people to inform about the circulation of “unfounded” videos.

People were further urged to return robbed weapons, ammo, and explosives to the local police station.

After a 19-year-old accused was detained late Friday, a total of five persons have been arrested in the ‘disrobing and parading women’ case. Yumlembam Nungsithoi was named as the fifth accused.

“State Police is making an all-out effort to arrest the remaining culprits by conducting raids at many suspected hideouts,” Manipur Police said in a statement.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has stated that he is personally overseeing the search for additional individuals shown in the viral video. Raids are being performed at a number of suspected hideouts, according to the state authorities.

“We condemn it throughout the state, both in the valley and in the hills.” Women are regarded as mothers by the people of the state. “Some miscreants harmed our reputation by doing this,” Singh remarked.

Manipur Police stated on Friday that four apprehended suspects, including the principal suspect, Huirem Herodas Meitei, who was prominently seen guiding the crowd that brutalized the two ladies in Kangpokpi district, had been placed in police custody for 11 days.
