Mizoram Police Books Assam CM For ‘Attempt To Murder’ Amid Border Dispute

Mumbai: The Mizoram Police on Friday said it had filed an FIR against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and six officials amid the border dispute between the two states. Six Assam policemen were martyred in border violence on Monday. Charges invoked by Mizoram Police include “attempt to murder”.

Police have also registered a case against two hundred unidentified Assam Police personnel alleging an attempt to murder and criminal conspiracy.

Various organizations in Mizoram have accused Himanta Biswa Sarma of playing an “aggressive role” on the border issue and responding to his allegations, the CM told the media that he would do his best to protect the land and territory of Assam if necessary. Will try I will try to give my life.

The development comes after Assam Police issued summons to six state officials, including a Rajya Sabha member from Mizoram and a deputy commissioner and a superintendent of police, for their alleged role in Monday’s border violence.

On Friday, 15 MLAs from Assam’s Barak Valley, cutting across all political parties, decided to move the court against the Superintendent of Police of Mizoram’s Kolasib District for his “barbaric act that led to the death of six Assam policemen and scores of people injured”.

The meeting of the MLAs was chaired by Assam’s Urban Development Minister Ashok Singhal.

Talking to the media after the meeting, the minister said that the long-standing border issue should be permanently resolved.
