Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai Among 130 Red Zones Designated By Centre

Mumbai: Following the coronovirus pandemic, the Ministry of Health has classified districts of all states and union territories, such as 30, 284 and 319, with 130, 284 and 319 such areas, respectively, across the country.

All the four major metros – Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai and Mumbai are classified as red areas. The other major cities under the Red Zone are – Bangalore Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Lucknow, Hyderabad, Indore, Bhopal, Patna, Ahmedabad, Surat, Pune and Nagpur.

The Union Health Secretary Preeti Sudan has written the above classification to the Chief Secretaries of all states and union territories.

According to the data shared by the ministry, Uttar Pradesh has the highest number of 19 red areas and Maharashtra has 14 red areas. Tamil Nadu comes with 12 red zones, followed by Delhi which has 11 red zones. West Bengal ranks fifth with 10 red areas.

Uttar Pradesh also has the highest number of orange areas at 36. It is followed by Tamil Nadu with 24 orange fields. Bihar comes in third place with 20 Orange Zone.

There are more than 30 green zones in Assam, followed by 25 green zones with both Arunachal Pradesh and Chhattisgarh states. Madhya Pradesh comes with 24 green areas.

“Districts were previously designated as hotspots / red-zones, orange zones, and green zones, primarily based on reported cumulative cases and doubling rates. The rates of recovery have increased, now the districts have varied Areas being nominated, “the Union Health Secretary wrote.

“This classification is multi-factorial and takes into account incidence, doubling rates, range of trials and monitoring response to classify districts. A district will be considered a green zone if there are no confirmed cases yet or there are The district has not recorded any cases in the last 21 days.

Clarifying the classification of districts, the Health Secretary said: “For districts having 1 or more municipal corporations, corporations and other areas of districts may be treated as separate units. If 1 or more of these have reported no cases for the last 21 days, they can be considered 1 level lower in zonal classification, if the district is in Red/Orange zone.”

“In the buffer zone, cases should be comprehensively monitored through ILI / SARI case monitoring in health facilities. States are requested to demarcate construction zones and buffer zones in identified Red and Orange zone districts and notify them,” she added.
