Mumbai Fire: 84 People Stranded On The Roof Of MTNL Building

Mumbai: Deputy Chief Fire Officer of Mumbai Fire Brigade told that all 84 people stranded on the roof of the MTNL building in Bandra West were rescued from the fire. A fire broke out at the MTNL building in Bandra West and on Monday afternoon reached level 4.

It is reported in the initial that about 100 people were trapped on the roof.

Fire Brigade personnel deployed a robot for the first time during a firefight in Mumbai. Four other fire engines and an ambulance were used in the operation.

Two fire brigade personnel in contact with the smoke have to be shifted to a nearby hospital. Fire brigade personnel had to deploy an air staircase to save the people. An official said that the fire was limited to the third and fourth floor.

Congress leader Ashok Chavan charged “massive corruption” in the fire and structural audit of buildings in Mumbai and asked the Shiv Sena-governed local civil body for its “mismanagement”.

Responding to the blast in the MTNL building in Suburban Bandra, the former Chief Minister said that the reports had claimed that the fire audit of the nine-storey building was done only last year.

“If this is true, then people need to know why the fire brigade had difficulty in saving the people trapped. The fire brigade faced difficulties due to the building’s small windows and closed structures. This is a serious issue and should be taken into account,” he said.

“Whether it is a fire audit or a structural audit of buildings, a fire in the city and recent events in the building collapse have proved that corruption is on a large scale. The civilian institution should take responsibility for this failure.
