Navjot Sidhu Resigns As Punjab Congress Chief; Says ‘Will Continue To Serve Cong’

Mumbai: Navjot Singh Sidhu on Tuesday resigned as President of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee, two months after assuming the post.

In the letter to Indian National Congress President Sonia Gandhi, he said, “The Collapse of man’s character stems from the compromise corner, I can never compromise on Punjab’s future and the agenda for the welfare of Punjab.”

Even though he has resigned from his post he will continue to serve the congress party.

“Therefore, I hereby resign as the President of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee. Will continue to serve the Congress,” Sidhu said in his letter.

This comes just before the visit of former Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh to the national capital, who was visiting Delhi after resigning on September 18.

He has submitted his resignation to Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi.

As the tussle in the Punjab Congress intensified in August, the party’s central leadership tried to bury the hatching by appointing Navjot Singh Sidhu as Congress president, apparently against the wishes of the chief minister.
