Nearly 17,000 Indians Have Left Ukraine Borders So Far: Govt

Mumbai: Nearly 17,000 Indians have left Ukraine borders since India issued advisories in the last week of January, Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said on Wednesday.

Addressing a press conference, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said that the government estimates that around 17,000 Indian nationals have left the borders of Ukraine since the issue of our advisory.

“There has been a rapid increase in the number of Indians leaving Ukraine. We now estimate that around 17,000 Indian nationalls have left Ukraine’s borders since our advisory was issued,” Bagchi said.

Sharing more details, the Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson said that 6 more flights landed in India in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of flights to India to 15 and the total number of Indians returning from these flights to 3,352. Went. Happened. Gone.

The External Affairs Ministry official also said that the second Indian student who lost his life in Ukraine today has been identified as Chandan Jindal. He lost his life due to natural causes and his family is also in Ukraine.

He also said that the advisory issued by our embassy right now is based on the information received from Russia.

“We would urge all our citizens to leave Kharkiv immediately to safer areas or further west, using any available means and keeping safety in mind,” he said.

According to information shared by the government on Tuesday, around 8,000 Indians, mainly students, are stranded in Ukraine. Four Union ministers have gone to Ukraine’s western neighbours, to rescue the stranded Indians.

Under Operation Ganga, India has been evacuating its citizens through special flights from Ukraine’s western neighbouring countries such as Romania, Hungary and Poland as the Ukrainian airspace has been shut down since February 24.
