Mumbai: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted raids against associates of gangster Dawood Ibrahim at several locations in Mumbai on Monday. Reports said that the officers of the agency detained Salim Qureshi, an associate of gangster Chhota Shakeel.
A PTI report said that the Anti-Terrorism Agency officials detained Salim Qureshi alias Salim Fruit, an aide of gangster Chhota Shakeel, who was detained from his residence in Mumbai during the raid. Some important documents were also recovered
An official said the NIA picked up Shakeel’s sister-in-law’s husband Qureshi from their residence in south Mumbai’s Bhendi Bazar area.
NIA raids were on at the premises of Ibrahim’s associates in south Mumbai’s Bandra, Santacruz and Borivali and western suburbs like Nagpada and Parel areas.
“Several hawala operators and drug peddlers were associated with Ibrahim and the NIA had registered (a case) in this regard in February. Raids began today,” a statement from the federal agency was cited by ANI.
