Nirav Modi Files Appeal Against Extradition To India In UK High Court

Mumbai: Fugitive diamantaire Nirav Modi has filed an appeal in a UK high court seeking permission to challenge his extradition to India.

On 15 April, the UK government signed an order to extradite Nirav Modi in India.

“On 25 February, the district judge ruled in Nirav Modi’s extradition case. The UK Home Office spokesman had said that the extradition order was signed on 15 April.”

Nirav Modi, wanted on charges of fraud and money-laundering in India, was arrested in London in March 2019 and Punjab National Bank (PNB) worth over Rs 11,000 crore for money laundering and fraud.

In February, a UK court ordered his extradition to India after rejecting a debate over his “mental health concerns”, saying they were not unusual for a man under his circumstances.

Judge Samuel Goji, sitting in the Westminster Magistrate’s Court in London, rejected each of the grounds given by the defence against Nirav Modi’s extradition.

He faces multiple charges in cases being handled by the Central Bureau of Investigation and the Enforcement Directorate.
