Nirbhaya Gangrape Convicts Hanged To Death, Parents Says Finally Justice Delivered

Mumbai: In a huge development, all four convicts in the 2012 Nirbhaya gang-rape and murder case was hanged in Delhi’s Tihar Jail at 5:30 am on Friday, revoking the death warrant. Three times on various grounds in the last two-and-a-half months.

The executioner, Pawan, who arrived in Tihar Jail on Tuesday, three days before the execution and conducted the necessary dummy hangings, pulled the liver at the scheduled time.

The victim’s parents – mother Asha Devi and father Badrinath Singh – were hanged, stating that their daughter finally got justice, after more than seven years she was brutally killed in a moving bus in the national capital.

A Delhi court had on March 5 issued a death warrant for four convicts – Akshay Thakur, Vinay Sharma, Pawan Gupta and Mukesh Singh. In Tihar Jail.

The jail administration woke up the four convicts, who were kept in four separate chambers under tight security, at 3.30 pm, according to the jail manual, two hours before the time of hanging. The four had spent a restless night.

The four convicts, along with two others including Ram Singh and a juvenile, had raped and brutally tortured a 23-year-old paramedic student on a moving bus in south Delhi on the night of December 16, 2012. The victim died a few days later after battling for life at Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital and later at a Singapore hospital.

Hundreds of people gathered outside Tihar Jail on Friday, holding placards and banners and shouting slogans in support of the hanging of the culprits. Security was tightened outside the prison. The case took place across the country, especially in Delhi, where a large number of people came out on the streets, demanding justice for the victim, who was named ‘Nirbhaya’ or Nirbhaya.
