‘No Detention Centre’s In Maharashtra’: CM Uddhav Thackeray

Mumbai: The Maha Vikas Aghadi Government’s CM Uddhav Thackeray said that he won’t allow any detention centres in Maharashtra, as there was a proposed detention centre in Navi Mumbai in the previous government.

While a meeting with Muslim delegations about their concern on recent NRC and CAA issues, Thackeray assured that there won’t be any injustice to them.

In addition, he mentioned that there is a misunderstanding regarding the detention centres. “The detention centres are only for foreign nationals who have served their sentence so that they can follow with their deportation process. However, we will not allow any detention camps in the state,” he added.

While almost 10 states have declined the implementation of NRC including Thackrey’s coalition partner INC, Thackeray said that he will wait until the Supreme Court gives verdict on the petitions filed on the issue.

There is a huge resentment in the country about NRC and CAA, protests against these bills were also seen in Maharashtra. Mainly in Mumbai celebs like Farhan Akhtar, Swara Bhasker were leading these anti-CAA and anti-NRC protests.

Even after separating from NDA, Shiv Sena had voted in favour of the bill in Lok Sabha. While walked out of Rajya Sabha when voting was in process.
