Modi Asks Ministers To Counter Disinformation Campaign Against CAA, NRC Unleashed By Opposition

Mumbai: Following the ongoing protest in some parts of the country over NRC and CAA, PM Narendra Modi, directed his cabinet colleagues to counter the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) propaganda being unleashed by the opposition parties across the country.

ANI news agency quoted its sources as saying, that the Prime Minister was peeved at the attacks by the opposition parties and wanted his senior colleagues to counter these with facts.

The instructions came at an informal chat with the cabinet ministers on Tuesday.

A senior minister told ANI, “The Prime Minister has asked us to reach out to the people and convince the CAA and clear up any misconceptions or confusion between them.”

The meeting reported that an example of Buddhist community migration to India was also cited as it was reported that the most oppressed minorities in Afghanistan fled to India after the destruction of Bamiyan Buddhas by the Taliban regime.

The CAA intends to grant Indian citizenship to non-Muslims entering the country from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan as of December 31, 2014.

At a rally on Sunday at the Ramlila Maidan in the national capital, Modi himself gave a detailed explanation on the government’s stand on misconceptions about CARA and NRC.

The Prime Minister’s instructions have come as the BJP feels that the opposition is raising doubts in the Muslim community about the laws against them.

The BJP has already asked its elected representatives to reach out to the public to create awareness about the controversial issue. To create mass awareness, the party launched a large-scale outreach program on social media with interpreters on the CAA and NRC as cartoons and easy to understand graphics.
