Non-Bailable Warrant Issued Against Raj Thackeray In 14-Yr-Old Case In Maha

Mumbai: A court in the Sangli district of Maharashtra has issued a non-bailable warrant against MNS chief Raj Thackeray for allegedly making inflammatory speeches in 2008. The Judicial Magistrate issued the warrant against Thackeray and his party colleague Shirish Parkar.

Issuing a non-bailable warrant on 6 April, the Judicial Magistrate, First Class at Shirala in Sangli district, asked the Mumbai Police Commission to arrest the MNS chief and produce him before the court.

Assistant Public Prosecutor, Jyoti Patil said the judge issued warrants against Thackeray and another MNS leader Shirish Parkar through Mumbai Police Commissioner and Kherwadi police station respectively as they failed to appear before the court during the proceedings of the case.

He said the court has asked the police to enforce the warrant before June 8 and produce both the leaders in the court.

In 2008, MNS workers protested in Shirala against Thackeray’s arrest in agitation to give priority to local youth in jobs.

A local MNS functionary claimed there was a government rule which states that political cases prior to 2012 should be withdrawn. However, this case is being raked up as Thackeray raised the issue of loudspeakers atop mosques, he added.
