Nitin Gadkari Is Right Man In Wrong Party: Maharashtra Minister

Mumbai: Maharashtra minister and senior Congress leader Ashok Chavan on Sunday said that the Narendra Modi government had failed to handle the Covid19 pandemic effectively and had overseen the loss of 12.21 crore jobs.

The central government has kept all decision-making powers to itself but has been blaming the state governments after the second wave of Covid19 spiralled out of control, said Ashok Chavan while speaking with media on the completion of seven years of the Modi govt.

“The price of petrol had reached Rs 100 perlite. Some 12.21 core people have lost their jobs. The per capita income of Bangladesh is now higher than that of India. The policies of the Centre have devastated the country,” he said.

Asked if he had a favourite minister in the Modi government, the senior Congress leader praised Union Minister Nitin Gadkari for supporting the dialogue with other parties despite ideological differences.

“He is the right man in the wrong party. He has a positive approach towards Maharashtra but his powers are being continuously curtailed,” Mr Chavan said.

However, the Congress leader has asked the Central government to come up with a solution after the Supreme Court recently struck down a state law granting reservations in jobs and education to the community as he slams the saffron party over the Maratha quota issue.

Meanwhile, he congratulated BJP Rajya Sabha MP Sambhaji Chhatrapati for trying to meet leaders of all parties to evolve a consensus on the Maratha quota issue.
