Our Alliance With BJP Is Certain: Shiv Sena Leader

Mumbai: Shiv Sena and BJP will jointly contest Maharashtra assembly elections next month, a senior Shiv Sena leader said here on Friday.

The alliance will be announced by Shiv Sena secretary Anil Desai on or before BJP chief Amit Shah’s visit to Mumbai on 22 September.

Desai’s remarks came during a meeting of senior Shiv Sena leaders held in Mumbai on Friday to discuss election preparations.

On the report that Shiv Sena would contest 126 seats and BJP 162 seats out of the total 288 seats in the assembly, Desai refused to comment on the figures, the seat-sharing would be decided by Thackeray and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

Senior Shiv Sena leader and minister in the Maharashtra government, Diwakar Rawate, recently said that the alliance would break if the alliance does not have to contest 50 per cent of the seats.

Senior Shiv Sena leader and minister in the Maharashtra government, Diwakar Raote, recently said that the alliance would break if the alliance does not have to contest 50 per cent of the seats.

A few days later, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut had said, “BJP has to respect the 50-50 formula set in the presence of Shah and Fadnavis.”

BJP and Shiv Sena contested the 2014 state assembly elections separately after failing to reach a seat-sharing formula.
