Our Main Aim Is Obviously The T20 WC In Australia: Shreyas Iyer

Mumbai: India batter Shreyas Iyer has said the team’s main aim is the upcoming T20 World Cup that will be played in Australia.

Chasing 149 for the win, Heinrich Klassen took the game away from India with a 46-ball 81 as South Africa romped home with four wickets to spare to go 2-0 up in the five-match series at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack. Also Read: Bhuvneshwar Will Be A Huge Plus For India In T20 WC In Aus: Sunil Gavaskar

“Our main objective is obviously the World Cup, so we have to see that we are planning for it. So we have that kind of mindset where we are completely independent and not thinking about anything else. These are real sports where we can practice what we lacked in the past. We keep discussing the same thing in team meetings we have to execute those. Even if we fail, we will learn from them and grow as a player and grow as a team. So till we reach Australia, it is more important,” Shreyas said in the post-match press conference.

“We have made a plan that no matter what happens, we will keep going,” Iyer said. “Even if we keep losing wickets, that is our gameplan and in future also, we will go with the same mindset. We will support ourselves and support our instincts.”

Talking about the pitch conditions where Indian batsmen were struggling as they could not score more than 150, Shreyas said: “I think if we could have done something on this wicket it would be 11 to 15 overs. Would have, would have. would have played.”

“But at the same time, you need to stick to the scoreboard. If I look back, I think 160 could have been a really good score on the board to put them under a little bit of pressure but we were around 12 runs short,” he added.

India and South Africa will now be squaring off for the third T20I on Tuesday at Vishakhapatnam.
