Over 300 Docs Died Of COVID-19 During 2nd Wave, 80 In Bihar: IMA

Mumbai: The Indian Medical Association (IMA) said that during the second wave of the COVID19 Pandemic in the country, at least 329 doctors succumbed to novel coronaviruses.

The IMA, which had earlier urged the government not to remove protection from the COVID pandemic, said that 80 of these people were casualties from Bihar.

The IMA further said that at least 73 doctors have died in Delhi, while 41 doctors have succumbed to the virus in Uttar Pradesh.

Saying that at least 20 doctors are dying on average every day due to COVID-19, the Doctors Association suggested that the actual number of deaths may be higher and said that it was based only on the input of its various branches across India.

The toll includes the doctors deployed in government hospitals, private hospitals and medical colleges.

Doctors and other healthcare and frontline workers were vaccinated in the first phase of the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination program that began on January 16 this year.

The vaccination program was recently expanded to include people over 60 years of age and later opened to those over 45 years of age.
