Petrol Gets Costlier By ₹7.20 Per Litre With 10 Hikes In 12 Days

This is the 10th hike in prices since the end of a four-and-a-half-month-long hiatus in the revised rates on March 22

Mumbai: Petrol and diesel prices have been hiked for the 10th time in 12 days. The 80-paise hike per litre took the total increase in rates in the last 12 days to Rs 7.20 per litre.

Petrol in Delhi now costs ₹102.61/litre after being increased by 80 paise/litre, while diesel price in the national capital has gone up to ₹93.87/litre from ₹93.07/litre.

In Mumbai, petrol price is at Rs 117.57 per litre against Rs 116.72 litre previously, while diesel price is at Rs 101.79 per litre against Rs 100.94 per litre previously.

Petrol in Kolkata costs Rs 112.19 per litre (an increase of 84 paise) and diesel costs Rs 97.02 per litre (an increase of 80 paise). Petrol in Chennai costs Rs 108.21 and diesel costs Rs 98.28 per litre.

Oil marketing companies (OMCs) have started increasing the retail fuel prices after four months due to rising international crude oil prices.

The first hike in petrol and diesel prices announced on March 22 this year was the first hike in 137 days. From November 3, 2021, to March 22, the central government cut excise duty on petrol by Rs 5 per litre and diesel by Rs 10 per litre and several states capped fuel prices due to lower state taxes.

This is the 10th hike in prices since the end of a four-and-a-half-month-long hiatus in the revised rates on March 22. Overall, petrol prices have increased by Rs 7.20 per litre.

Besides, CNG price in the national capital was hiked by 80 paise per kg on Friday, while piped cooking gas rates were hiked by Rs 5 per cubic metre, as the government raised prices of input natural gas to record levels.
