Pfizer, Moderna Refused COVID-19 Vaccines, Said Will Deal With Centre Only: Kejriwal

Mumbai: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday said that the Delhi government has spoken to Pfizer and Moderna for COVID-19 vaccines, but both the companies have refused to sell vaccines directly to the Delhi government.

“We’ve spoken to Pfizer and Moderna for vaccines, and both the manufacturers have refused to sell vaccines directly to us. They have said they will deal with the central government. We appeal to the centre to import vaccines and distribute them to the states,” CM Kejriwal told reporters.

Earlier, Punjab said Moderna has refused to sell vaccines to the state directly. The Amarinder Singh government had reached to out all such manufacturers, according to officials, looking for direct purchases.

However, the Vaccine rollout for the 18-44 age group was paused in Delhi on Saturday due to the shortage of doses.

Meanwhile, the national capital, which has witnessed hospitals buckling under the pressure of India’s second Covid wave, saw 1,649 new cases and 189 deaths in the last 24 hours.

Lockdown in Delhi is now extended for the sixth straight week on Sunday even as the city saw positivity rate dropping to less than 2.5 per cent.
