PM Modi To Witness Soft-Landing On Moon As It Happens

Mumbai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be in town to witness live, Chandrayaan-2’s landing module ‘Vikram’ trying to pull off a historic soft-landing on the lunar surface in the early hours of Saturday.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi will arrive in Bengaluru on 6 September and will see ISRO Telemetry, Tracking and Command Network (ISTRAC) near Piro, during the morning Chandrayaan landing on 7 September, and leave for Mumbai on the same day,” Government of Karnataka official release said.

ISRO has said that around 60-70 students from across the country will be watching India’s proposed soft landing on the moon in the early hours of Saturday.

In ISRO’s online space quiz competition from each state and union territory, two top-scoring students have been invited by the space agency to watch its centre, which is the landing of Chandrayaan-2’s ‘Vikram’ module on the moon.

‘Vikram’ (located inside the rover ‘Pragya’) is expected to touch down on the lunar surface between 1.30 am and 2.30 am on September 7.

A successful landing would make India the fourth country to achieve a soft landing on the moon after Russia, the US and China.

But it would be the first to begin a mission in the unexplained South Pole region of the Moon.
