Polling For Fourth Phase Of Lok Sabha Continues

Mumbai: Polling for the phase 4 of Lok Sabha elections is going on Monday.

Elections were held in 72 Lok Sabha constituencies of 9 states.

Over 12.79 crore voters to decide the fate of 961 candidates.

More than 1.40 lakh polling stations for smooth conduct of voting.

The wager for ruling BJP and its allies is high because in 2014, 56 of these seats were for Congress and the remaining two opposition parties like Trinamool Congress (six) and Biju Janata Dal (six).

There are 17 seats in Maharashtra, 13 in Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, eight in West Bengal, six in Madhya Pradesh and Odisha, five in Bihar, three in Jharkhand and one part of Anantnag constituency in Jammu and Kashmir.

In Maharashtra, where the elections will end with this phase, the opposition Congress is facing the difficult task of reclaiming its lost base in northern Maharashtra and Mumbai, while NCP has a foothold in Thane district and Western Maharashtra trying to. The BJP and its allies Shiv Sena won all 17 seats in 2014.

Elections are being held for 542 Lok Sabha seats in seven phases between April 11 and 19. Elections have been canceled after more use of money power in the Vellore constituency in Tamil Nadu. The results will be announced on May 23.
