Prime Minister Narendra Modi Meets Pope Francis At The Vatican City

Mumbai: PM Narendra Modi on Saturday met Pope Francis at the Vatican City in Rome. He was accompanied by National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.

The meeting was scheduled for only twenty minutes, but it went on for an hour, ANI reported. PM Modi and the Pope discussed a range of issues aimed at improving our planet, such as fighting climate change and eradicating poverty.

Sharing photographs from the meeting, the PM said that he had a very warm meeting with Pope Francis.

I had the opportunity to discuss a wide range of issues with him and also invited him to visit India, he added.

He also met Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of State of the Vatican City State

PM Modi leaves Vatican City after meeting Pope Francis on Saturday ahead of G20. He was accompanied by National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval and External Affairs Minister (EAM) Dr S Jaishankar.

The Vatican is a city-state that surrounds Rome and is the headquarters of the Roman Catholic Church. The Prime Minister arrived in Italy on Friday to attend the two-day G20 summit. PM Modi will participate in the G20 opening session on Global Economy and Global Health today.

He is also scheduled to meet with French President Emmanuel Macron and Indonesian President Joko Widodo. PM Modi is also expected to hold a meeting with Singapore PM Lee Hosein Loong.

In the evening, the Prime Minister is scheduled to arrive at Terme di Diocletiano for a cultural programme. Later, dinners are planned for G20 leaders and allies.

On Friday, PM Modi met with top European Union leaders and Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi. They congratulated Prime Minister Modi for India’s excellent progress on the COVID-19 vaccination. Prime Minister also interacted with members of the Indian community-based in Italy. PM Modi will be in the capital city of Italy till October 31.
