Mumbai: Amid speculations of a rift in the Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA), the Shiv Sena in its mouthpiece Saamana on Thursday took a dig at the Congress, saying its leader Rahul Gandhi is active only on Twitter.

Despite people’s anger and discontent, the BJP is confident that their government is not in danger. It is because of a weak and scattered opposition party.”

In Maharashtra, Congress, NCP and Shiv Sena are in power in an alliance arrangement. Representatives of the Congress party and Shiv Sena were not present in the meeting held at Sharad Pawar’s residence.

Commenting on the Congress’ absence, the editorial said, “The Congress party did not attach importance to the ‘Rashtra Manch’. If Rahul Gandhi had gathered the Opposition in Delhi as Sharad Pawar did on Tuesday, then the faces Opposition would have been stronger.”

“Prime Minister Modi and his government’s popularity is not the same. It has collapsed, but the current Opposition does not seem to be growing or taking root in that collapsed space. Opposition parties have won elections in some states. The tide of victory was flowing,” said the Saamana editorial.

The Shiv Sena took a jibe at the Congress, an ally in the ruling Maha Vikas Aghadi government in Maharashtra, saying, “The fact is that a big opposition party like Congress should be involved in all these developments.”

“A prominent Congress leader like Rahul Gandhi should join Sharad Pawar’s efforts to unite the opposition. Only then can the combined strength of the opposition attain real strength.”

“It is true that Rahul Gandhi is attacking PM Modi’s working methods, his mistakes, but he is attacking Twitter. As soon as the central government realised that Twitter is not working in their favour, they started taking action against Twitter,” said the Sena editorial.
