Reece Topley Records Best-Ever Bowling Figures By An England Bowler In Men’s ODI History

Mumbai: England fast bowler Reece Topley on Thursday recorded the best-ever bowling figures by an England bowler in men’s ODI cricket history. The 28-year-old registered figures of 9.5-2-24-6 against India in the second ODI at Lord’s to break the record.

He broke former England skipper and star all-rounder Paul Collingwood’s 17-year-old record to take the number one position.

Collingwood, 46, who is now England’s assistant coach, dismissed six Bangladeshi batsmen for 31 runs in 10 overs at Trent Bridge on 21 June 2005.

Topley had opened fire against India from the start and after bowling his first over against Indian captain Rohit Sharma, he got him out for a duck in the fourth ball of his second over.

The right-handed batsman, who is the highest run-scorer in ODIs on England soil, was dismissed for only the second time in his ODI career in England.

After Rohit, Topley also dismissed his opening partner Shikhar Dhawan and then in-form Suryakumar Yadav was dismissed for 27 runs in his second spell.

Topley, 6 feet 7 inches tall, completed his maiden half-century by dismissing Mohammed Shami, Yuzvendra Chahal and Pramukh Krishna in the last three overs of his third spell and recorded the best bowling figures by an English bowler in ODI cricket.
