Row Over Loudspeakers At Mosques Will Backfire BJP In Elections: Siddaramaiah

Mumbai: Ex-Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah criticised the BJP-led Karnataka government and said that the Karnataka BJP is “manipulating society with communal issues for their political gains” because the Assembly elections are nearing.

Siddaramaiah said speakers have been installed in temples, churches and mosques long ago and questioned Chief Minister BS Bommai’s silence on the matter. Also Read: It’s Not Only For Azaan: K’taka CM On Demand For Loudspeaker Ban In Mosques

“With Assembly elections approaching, Karnataka BJP is aligning our society with communal issues for its political gains. This will cause a huge loss to BJP in the coming days. Speakers have long been installed in temples, mosques and churches. What has happened to people so far? Is the CM of Karnataka so weak that he is unable to take action against those who create disturbances in the society?” Siddaramaiah said. Also Read: MNS Muslim Leader Resigns, Accuses Party Of Turning ‘Communal’

Leader of Opposition in Karnataka Assembly further said, “It is unfortunate that anti-social elements are disturbing peace and creating tension in our state. Does BS Bommai’s silence indicate his support or his ability to tackle the issue?”

Siddaramaiah also asked Bommai to resign saying his failure was hurting the people of the state. “Bringing order in our state is important for overall progress. If Karnataka CM BS Bommai has a genuine concern for our people, he should resign and go home before everything goes down. Their failure is hurting people.”

Some right-wing groups have been raising their voice against the use of loudspeakers in mosques in the state. Senior Karnataka minister KS Eshwarappa had yesterday said that any solution to the issue can be found by taking the Muslim community into confidence and keeping in mind the interests of students and patients.

Last week, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray had demanded that loudspeakers of mosques be shut down.
