Russia Ends Military Drills In Crimea A Day After Troop Pullback From Ukraine’s Borders

Mumbai: Russia announced on Wednesday that it was ending Crimean military exercises to further defuse geopolitical tensions. Moscow said the troops had begun to leave.

The military exercise involving Moscow in Crimea concluded a day after Russia asked to withdraw some troops from the Ukraine border.

“Units of the Southern Military District, having completed their participation in tactical exercises, are moving to their permanent deployment points,” the Russian Defence Ministry stated in a statement.

On state television, images of military units crossing the bridge connecting Crimea to the Russian mainland were beamed.

Tuesday’s announcement of the withdrawal of some troops created a positive sentiment on Russian financial markets. Also yesterday, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz arrived in Moscow for talks with President Vladimir Putin amid the potential threat of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Interfax reported that according to the district command, some soldiers were on their way back to their positions in the southern regions of Dagestan and North Ossetia.
