SC Cancels HC Order Staying Haryana Govt’s Law On 75% Quota For Locals In Private Jobs

Mumbai: Supreme Court on Thursday cancelled the Punjab and Haryana High Court’s order staying the Haryana government’s law on providing 75% reservation in private sector jobs for local candidates.

A bench of Justices L Nageswara Rao and PS Narasimha directed the Punjab and Haryana HC to decide the issue within a month and the state government not to take any coercive steps against the employers.

The bench said, “We do not intend to look into the matter on merits. We request the High Court to decide the matter within four weeks from today. We ask the lawyers not to seek adjournment.”

The Haryana government law (Haryana State Employment of Local Candidates Act 2020) provides for 75 percent reservation for locals in private sector jobs with a monthly salary of less than Rs 30,000.
