India Removes Restrictions On Number Of Flights To/From Ukraine Amid Russia Threat

Mumbai: Ministry of Civil Aviation has removed restrictions on a number of flights between India-Ukraine under the air bubble arrangement amid the Russian invasion threat. Earlier, India has advised its citizens to leave Ukraine temporarily amid the current situation in Ukraine due to rising tensions with Russia.

According to the government, Indian carriers have been asked to look for flights to Ukraine due to the surge in demand, adding that the ministry is coordinating with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) regarding flight services.

On Wednesday, the Indian Embassy in Kyiv said that more flights are being planned in the near future to meet the additional demand.

“Indian Embassy is receiving several appeals regarding non-availability of flights from Ukraine to India. In this regard, students are advised not to panic but book the earliest available and convenient flights to travel to India,” it had said in a statement.

It also said that Ukrainian International Airlines, Air Arabia, Fly Dubai and Qatar Airways are currently operating flights from Ukraine.

“To meet the additional demand, more flights are being planned in the near future, involving Ukrainian International Airlines, Air India, etc. Details on the same will be shared once confirmed by the embassy,” it added.

Under an air bubble arrangement between two countries, international passenger flights may be operated by their respective carriers into each other’s territories, subject to certain conditions.

At present, India has an air bubble arrangement with 35 countries. International commercial passenger flights to and from India are suspended with effect from March 23, 2020.
