SC Refuses To Give Protection To Newly Elected BSP MP Atul Rai From Arrest

Mumbai: The Supreme Court refused to give protection to the newly elected BSP MP from Ghosi Lok Sabha constituency in Uttar Pradesh, Atul Rai, accused of rape of a college student in Varanasi.

A vacation bench of Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice Anirudh Bose said that Roy is not interested in considering a petition for relief from arrest.

On the complaint of a college student, an FIR was lodged against her on May 1, alleging that she took her home to pretend to associate her with her wife but sexually abused her.

Rai’s counsel has said that there was no provision for advance bail in Uttar Pradesh, and since the High Court had rejected Rai’s petition on May 8, he said that he feared that his client was arrested in the case.
