Rahul Gandhi Is All Set To Step Down As Congress President, CWC To Meet Again

Mumbai: Congress President Rahul Gandhi has been stuck on leaving the party in view of Grand Old Party’s defeat in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

Congress got a vacancy in Rajasthan as NDA won all 25 seats. In Karnataka, where he formed a government with JD (S) in May last year, Congress managed to win only one of the 28 Lok Sabha seats. Most of the 29 states including Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh the party faced huge loss where they defeated the BJP in the Assembly elections in December.

In view of election results, Rahul Gandhi resigned as the Congress chief but this was dismissed by the Congress Working Committee (CWC) unanimously and in one voice on Saturday.

But it seems like Rahul Gandhi has made his mind to step aside from president post of Congress party.

According to media reports, if Rahul resigns then it is not necessary that another President belongs to the Gandhi family. However, another CWC meeting is expected in the next four days – from top to bottom to make a big decision on restructuring.

However, Patel later said that he went to meet Rahul for regular administrative work.

“I had sought time before the CWC to meet the Congress President to discuss routine administrative work. The meeting today was in that context. All other speculation is incorrect and baseless,” Patel tweeted.
