Shooter Singhraj Wins Bronze, India Extend Their Best Medal Tally At Paralympics To 8

Mumbai: Shooter Singhraj won a bronze medal at the Tokyo Paralympics on Tuesday in the P1 – Men’s 10m Air Pistol SH1 event. The 39-year-old shot a score of 216.8 to finish third in the event.

In a nervous encounter, Singhraj made it to the podium with his 20th shot. China’s Lu Xi was third in the standings but his poor shot of 8.6 paved the way for Singhraj to claim the No. 3 spot.

The top two podium places were sealed by the Chinese pair of Huang Jing and Yang Chao. Sinharaj secured the third position with an overall score of 216.8.

Sinharaj qualified for the final with sixth place. His scores were read: 96, 95, 92, 98, 97, and 97 in six rounds of 10 shots each. Fellow Indian Manish Narwal had topped the qualifying round but could not maintain his form in the final. Manish finished only 7th in the medal round.

In the final, Singhraj shot good scores right from the beginning. He shot 95 and 97 in the first two series before a 93 in third landed him in trouble. The veteran shooter didn’t give up and fought back with a score of 95 in the 4th series. A 92 in the second last series had put him in the 4th spot but he finished with a brilliant 97 to bag the last podium spot.
