Covishield, developed by pharma giant AstraZeneca and Oxford University and made by Serum Institute of India, and Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin are the two main shots used in the nationwide vaccination drive that started in January. Russia’s Sputnik is the third vaccine to be cleared for use.

Meanwhile, Health Ministry’s Joint Secretary Luv Aggarwal said that there has been a decline of about 69 per cent in the cases of COVID-19 since the highest level was recorded on May 7.

He further said that 30 states have registered a decline in active COVID-19 cases since last week. “There has been a decrease of 50 per cent in active cases, 1.3 lakh inactive cases in a day. Cases are decreasing continuously for a week in 30 states/UTs, this is a positive trend. Agarwal said.

He said that the country has been reporting less than two lakh COVID-19 cases since May 28, asserting that there is a decline in infection in the country.

“Recovered cases are more than daily cases now, with recoveries increasing to 92 per cent now,” he added.
