‘Slap Row’ Narayan Rane To Move Bombay HC Seeking Quashing Of FIRs Against Him

Mumbai: Union Minister Narayan Rane will move the Bombay High Court to quash the FIR lodged against him in connection with his “slap” remarks against Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.

Rane was arrested and later released on bail by a Mahad court after FIRs were lodged at several places over his remarks during a rally in Konkan.

As per reports, the Union Minister will file an application in the Bombay High Court later today to quash the FIR against him. The High Court sought quashing of all FIRs registered at various places in Maharashtra, including Raigad and Pune.

Police teams were deployed outside Rane’s residence, anticipating a protest or clash between Shiv Sena and BJP leaders in light of the situation.

In a related case, the Nashik police have sent a notice to Rane in connection with the FIR against him, asking him to appear before the police station on September 2.

The Mahad magistrate, in his order, said that Narayan Rane’s arrest was justified but custodial interrogation was not required considering the nature of the offence as the purported statement made by the Union minister against the CM was available and went viral on social media.

A massive political row erupted when Rane, a former Shiv Sena leader, referred to Maharashtra Chief Minister and Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray singularly and said that he would have ‘slapped’ the CM for parts of his speech on Independence Day.

The Shiv Sena has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking suspension of Rane from the Union Cabinet.
