Sreeshankar Creates History, Becomes First Indian Man To Win Silver In Long Jump At CWG

Mumbai: Long jumper Murali Sreeshankar has created history by becoming the first Indian male athlete to win the silver medal in the long jump at CWG.

The 23-year-old registered a best jump of 8.08m and bagged a silver medal in the men’s long jump event at CWG 2022.

Bahamas’ Lakhan Nair (8.08m) won the gold, while South Africa’s Jovan van Vuuren (8.06) won the bronze medal at Birmingham 2022. India’s Murali Sreeshankar started with a successful jump of 7.60m in his first attempt.

He made a simple jump in his second attempt, in which he jumped 7.84 meters with complete ease. In his third attempt, he again jumped 7.84 metres. In the second round of the final, Sreeshankar made a wrong attempt while stepping on the whiteboard.

In his fifth attempt, he made a spectacular comeback in the game and jumped 8.08m to finish second. In the sixth and last attempt, he made a wrong attempt and had to be content with the silver medal.

India’s Mohammad Anees Yahia made a foul attempt while stepping 11 cm above the whiteboard while making his first jump in the men’s long jump final. He jumped 7.65 meters in his second attempt. He jumped 7.72 meters in the third attempt.

In the second round, Anees registered his fourth attempt at the 7.74m mark. He took a jump of 7.58m in the fifth attempt. In the sixth and last jump, he registered a jump of 7.97m, his best of the event and ended it with a spot in the top five.
