Sri Lanka PM Receives Ceremonial Reception At Rashtrapati Bhawan,Meets PM Modi

Mumbai: In a recent development, Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa on Saturday attended a formal function at Rashtrapati Bhavan in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He said, “The purpose of my visit is to strengthen our friendship and relations between the two countries geographically and economically. Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa visited India about three months ago. Now it’s my turn.”

The visiting dignitaries arrived here on Friday evening. The Sri Lankan leader is also expected to hold talks with President Ram Nath Kovind today. Other programs of the day include his visit to Rajghat – where he will garland the Mahatma Gandhi memorial.

Rajapaksa will leave for Uttar Pradesh’s Varanasi on Sunday where he will visit Kashi Vishwanath Temple and Sarnath Buddhist Temple. Security has been increased in Varanasi ahead of Rajapaksa’s visit.

On the morning of 10 February, Rajapaksa will leave for Bodh Gaya in Bihar – where he will visit the Mahabodhi Temple and the Bodh Gaya Center – and later in the day in Tirupati, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
