Stress-Free Kohli Could Be Dangerous News For Opposition: Glenn Maxwell

Mumbai: RCB all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has said that stress-free Virat Kohli could be dangerous news for the opposition now that he won’t be captaining the side.

Kohli, who resigned from the RCB captaincy after the IPL last year, has also resigned from the T20 and Test captaincy, stepping down from the ODI leadership role. Maxwell feels that Kohli is no longer the aggressive cricketer he used to be and it is a pleasant surprise.

“He knows he is handing over the captaincy, which I think is potentially a huge burden for him. Maybe it is something that has been weighing him down for a while and now he is ready to release it. If he manages to do that, it could be dangerous news for the opposition teams,” Maxwell told the RCB podcast.

The flamboyant Aussie is happy that Kohli is in the phase when he will be really enjoying being out in the thick of things.

“It’s amazing for him to get some rest and really enjoy the next few years of his career without any outside pressure. I think playing against him in earlier days, he was a fiery competitor, getting in your face. He’s always trying to impose himself on the game. Impose himself on the opposition.”

The Australian all-rounder is loving the cricket conversation he had with Kohli and is himself surprised that the former India captain has become a close friend.

“Something I’ve noticed more from him this year is he’s been really measured with his emotions. He’s actually been really measured with his decision-making. He’s certainly really surprised me and probably how close we’ve both gotten to each other as well this year. Being able to talk about the game in a calm manner,” Maxwell said
