Telangana Bans Spitting In Public Places As measure To Contain COVID-19 Spread

Mumbai: The state government on Wednesday issued a GO, as such a practice may lead to potential transmission of COVID-19 such as a ban on PAN, any chewable tobacco or non-tobacco products, or such practice in public places and institutions.

Shanti Kumari, Principal Secretary, Health Department, said: “The COVID-19 pandemic has brought out the importance of hygiene and cleanliness in both the personal and public sectors, requiring a ban on unhealthy practices that could potentially cause such The spread can cause viruses and other infections.”

“The habit of the spitting public is a serious threat to the spread of such infections. Now, therefore, in the interest of public health and safety, spitting of pan / any chewable tobacco or non-tobacco product, the effect of spitting in public places and institutions are banned with immediate effect. ”

Asked how the ban can be enforced and what the punitive provisions will be if it is violated, the Director of Medical Education, Dr. K Ramesh Reddy said: “No specific plans can be made to deal with this concern. It is the discretion of the people that will make the move a success. There are no penal provisions either in this regard. We hope the people would honour the ban and abide by it.”
