In a statement issued by the White House, Biden said that “Putin has chosen a pre-planned war that will bring a catastrophic loss of life and human suffering”. Also Read: Ukraine Imposes Martial Law As Russia Declares War, Prez Says ‘We’ll Defeat Everyone’
“Russia alone is responsible for the death and destruction of this attack, and the United States and its allies and allies will respond in a united and decisive manner,” he said. Also Read: International Oil Prices Hit $100 Mark For First Time As Russia Invades Ukraine
Biden said he would monitor the situation in Ukraine and hold meetings with his G-7 counterparts on Friday morning, after which further action would be taken.
Just three days after declaring the rebel regions of Donetsk and Luhansk in eastern Ukraine as independent states, Putin announced a military operation in the Donbas region on Thursday morning, asking Ukrainian soldiers to lay down their weapons and return home.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said in a tweet that “Putin has just launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Peaceful Ukrainian cities are under strikes. This is a war of aggression”.
“Ukraine will defend itself and will win. The world can and must stop Putin. The time to act is now.
