Uddhav Camp Moves SC Against Shinde Group’s Plea To Stake Claim Over Sena

Mumbai: Shiv Sena faction led by Uddhav Thackeray has moved the Supreme Court against the Election Commission’s proceedings on Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde-led group’s plea for recognition as the real Shiv Sena.

The group led by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde had filed a petition before the Election Commission.

The development comes at a time when the Election Commission has asked Shiv Sena rivals to submit documents by August 8 to prove their majority and support their claims on the symbol of the political outfit – bow and arrow.

Both the parties have been asked to submit documents, including letters of support from the legislative and organizational wing of the party and written statements of rival facts.

The fresh petition has been filed in a pending petition by Shiv Sena general secretary Subhash Desai and also sought the apex court’s nod to make the election panel a party.

The Thackeray faction has written to the Election Commission requesting it not to proceed with the Shinde faction’s plea in view of the pending petitions in the apex court.

The petition has argued to take the rival Shinde group’s electoral Sibmol and the real Shiv Sena as “desperation”.

Last week, the Thackeray group had filed a representation before the Election Commission after the Shinde-led group wrote to the commission seeking allotment of the party’s ‘bow and arrow’ symbol, recognition to them in the Lok Sabha and Maharashtra Was. demanded. meeting.

The top court had on July 20 said that the petitions filed by Shiv Sena and its rebel MLAs during the recent Maharashtra political crisis raised constitutional issues which may need to be considered by a larger bench.

Shinde was sworn in as the Maharashtra chief minister on June 30 with the support of the BJP a day after Thackeray resigned from the top post. Shinde’s rebellion against the party led to the fall of Thackeray’s coalition government in which the NCP and Congress were allies.
