Ukraine Evacuation Named ‘Op Ganga’ As Varanasi Is Undergoing Voting: Akhilesh

Mumbai: The operation to evacuate Indians from Ukraine was named “Operation Ganga” as Varanasi is also undergoing voting in UP Assembly polls, SP chief, Akhilesh Yadav, said.

Speaking to ANI, Yadav questioned the claims of evacuating students from Ukraine, saying that the Center “failed to evacuate Indians”.

Calling the operation a mere political stunt for the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, Yadav said, “Don’t know which international recognition they are boasting about. They (BJP-led Centre) failed to evacuate Indians, named evacuation ‘Operation Ganga’ because of the polls in Varanasi. Had they rescued our people from Ukraine directly I would’ve appreciated it.”

The Center arranged flights from neighbouring countries of Ukraine to evacuate Indian students as part of ‘Operation Ganga’.

The government on Sunday said it has evacuated around 16,000 Indian students from Ukraine since February 22.

The conflict in Ukraine began on 24 February when Russia launched a special military operation there.
