‘Unfair Decision,’ Says Shoaib Akhtar, Wanted Babar Azam To Be Man Of The Tournament

Australia won their first T20 World Cup title and the opener David Warner won the Player of the Tournament award

Mumbai: Former Pakistan Cricketer Shoaib Akhtar has shared disappointment for making Australian batter David Warner the Player of the Tournament and not Babar Azam, who emerged as the leading run-scorer in the competition.

Australia won their first T20 World Cup title on Sunday against New Zealand at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, and the Aussie opener David Warner won the Player of the Tournament award.

Warner emerged as the second-highest run-scorer of the competition and plundered 289 runs in 7 innings at an average of 48.17 and a strike rate in excess of 145.

However, Pakistani batter Babar Azam emerged as the leading run-scorer with 303 runs in 6 innings in the 2021 T20 World Cup.

Shoaib Akhtar is not happy with Warner winning the Player of the Tournament award and expressed that Babar Azam should have won the award.

“Was really looking forward to seeing Babar Azam becoming Man of the Tournament. The unfair decision for sure” tweeted Shoaib Akhtar.

New Zealand scored a competitive-looking total of 172 for four but Mitchell Marsh’s aggressive unbeaten 77 coupled with David Warner’s fifty propelled Australia to their maiden triumph in the men’s T20 World Cup.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan side was knocked out of the T20 World Cup in the semi-final stages. Pakistan posted a good total of 176/4 against Australia, but the kangaroos chased down the target set by the ‘Men in Green’ with 5 wickets.

In the semi-final, David Warner stepped up for the Australian side, scoring a quickfire 30-ball 49.
