Union Cabinet Approves President’s Rule In Puducherry
Mumbai: A day after President Ram Nath Kovind accepted the resignation of Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy and his Council of Ministers, the Union Cabinet today approved President’s rule in the Union Territory.
Meanwhile, Congress will stage a protest tomorrow during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit.
Holding the central government responsible for the collapse of the V Narayanasamy-led government, the grand old party will oppose the alleged assassination of democracy by the Modi government.
Narayanasamy resigned before the floor test on February 22 after five Congress and one Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) legislators lost a majority in the 33-member house.
Before the floor test, Narayanasamy alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was forcibly trying to implement Hindi in UT.
Later, he called on Lt. Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan and submitted the resignation.
Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are likely to take place in April-May this year.
