Union Minister Smriti Irani Inaugurates India’s Largest Plastic Made Charkha In Noida On Gandhi Jayanti Eve

Mumbai: The country’s largest charkha or spinning wheel made of used plastic waste was inaugurated in Uttar Pradesh Noida Eve of Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary.

The 1,650 kg spinning wheel was inaugurated by Union Minister Smriti Irani, Gautam Buddh Nagar MP Mahesh Sharma, Noida MLA Pankaj Singh, and Noida authority CEO Ritu Maheshwari.

The spinning wheel has been installed in sector 94 near the Mahamaya flyover. The charkha’ which is symbolized Mahatma Gandhi’s dream of swadeshi, measures 14 ft by 20 ft by 8 ft and is made of 1,250kg of used plastics.

Praising the Noida authority for its effort Mrs. Smriti Irani said, “The Gigantic spinning wheel is not the only representative of construction and beautification but also represents our commitment towards the plastic-free companion.”

Noida Book of CEO Ritu Maheshwari said, “The charkha has been recognized is the largest made of used plastic in the country buy India Book of Records”.

Noida authority of General Manager Rajiv Tyagi said, “The authority is focusing on raising awareness among the people for proper disposal of waste and recycling of plastic wherever possible.”
