Unseasonable Showers Sweep Away Harvested Crops, Trouble For Farmers: Maha CM

Mumbai: Due to heavy showers in nearby areas of Maharashtra, farmers have suffered heavy losses, Maha CM Devendra Fadnavis informed.

“Maharashtra has witnessed unseasonal and unprecedented rains recently, causing heavy losses to farmers across the state. I had a meeting today with district collectors and officials of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) to discuss the issue,”  Fadnavis told to ANI.

Earlier today, Fadnavis held a meeting with the district collectors to discuss the current situation and work accordingly.

“There have been four major cyclones in the state in the last four months. Due to the Curr cyclone, Maharashtra has received heavy rainfall in the last two weeks of October. Harvested crops have been extensively destroyed. Millions of hectares of fields in 335 tehsils have been destroyed,” he said.

He went on to say that, respective authorities and administration have been directed to take on-field stock of the situation.

Fadnavis said, “We are preparing records to give compensation to farmers. We have also sensitized insurance companies. Insurance companies will not be able to reach so many places, hence the government machinery that is assessing the damage.”

Fadnavis also stated that a meeting of cabinet sub-committee will be called tomorrow to discuss the prevailing problem.
